Five Years that made a Difference

In 2010 the world community came together in order to improve the livelihoods of millions of people in developing countries by changing their way of cooking. Mainly women and children have been, and many of them still are, suffering from health problems caused by smoky, toxic fires, and poorly designed stoves used for preparing food. Based on the vision to enable 100 million households to adopt clean and efficient cookstoves and fuels by 2020, 19 partners under the leadership of the United Nations and the World Health Organization founded the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves.

Report - Five Years of Impact: 2010 - 2015

Five years ago, the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves was founded on a simple belief: "Cooking shouldn’t kill." The founding partners laid out a powerful vision to save and improve lives by creating a thriving, global market that would enable 100 million households to adopt clean and efficient cookstoves and fuels by 2020.

Now, five years later, they know that although the "100 million by 2020" goal remains ambitious, it is also achievable. In fact, they are on target to exceed our mid-term goals, as outlined in a new report being released today, "Five Years of Impact - Our Story, Our Progress, Our Aspiration". The report highlights many of the Alliance’s major achievements from the past five years. It also features key statistics, lessons learned, stories of impact, testimonials from donors and stakeholders, as well as a look ahead at what’s in store for the next five years.
