The Manuscript Submission Form (MSF) must be complete and included with all manuscript submissions to the International Journal of Home Economics before a manuscript will be considered for publication. Manuscripts are to be provided as blind copy (see below). Please do not use ALL CAPITALS in any documents submitted to IJHE. Please see author information page
The title of the manuscript is to be 25 words or fewer. Please provide up to five keywords subject to approval by the Editor.
Authors must classify their article as one of the following: Research paper, Viewpoint, Technical paper, Conceptual paper, Literature review, or General Review. All papers require an abstract of between 100 and 200 words, but research papers must provide a structured abstract including (where applicable): Purpose, Design/methodology, Findings, Research limitations/implications, Practical implications, and Social implications.
- Research papers report on research carried out by the author(s). The study may include the design or testing of a model or framework, action research, data testing, market research or surveys, empirical, scientific or clinical research.
- Viewpoint papers (including journalistic pieces) rely on the author's opinion and interpretation.
- Technical papers describe and evaluate products, processes or services.
- Conceptual papers develop hypotheses (instead of reporting research), consider philosophical debates and comparisons of other studies.
- Literature review papers annotate and comment on the research in a particular subject area.
- General review papers deliver a summary or historical analysis of some theory, practice or phenomenon.
An ethics statement regarding permission for the research conducted should be included with research papers. If the research includes human subjects, a statement regarding the protection of participants should also be included.
Disclosures and acknowledgements
Authors are required to describe the originality / value of their paper, particularly as it applies to the IJHE international readership. Manuscripts submitted for publication must not have been previously submitted or published elsewhere.
IJHE endorses the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Code of Conduct and Guidelines for ethics in publishing (https://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines). Articles must be original work and, where appropriate, should acknowledge any significant contribution by others. Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest and acknowledge funding sources at the manuscript submission stage. Manuscripts are scrutinised for plagiarism before the review process begins and will be returned if there are concerns.
The manuscript is to be provided as a blind copy for the integrity of the review process, with all information identifying the authors removed from manuscript, including self-citation.
Manuscript writing and formatting
Contributors are addressing an international audience so jargon and local terminology clarified. Authors should use non-discriminatory language. Measurements should be in metric units.
The manuscript should be provided as an MS Word document, double-spaced with minimal formatting. Do not use footnotes, endnotes, underlining or indents. There should be a maximum of three levels of headings (not numbered) formatted bold and at 16 pt, 14 pt and 12 pt. A spell check should be completed before the manuscript is submitted. All referencing is to be APA (see www.apastyle.org/). Using ReciteWorks (http://reciteworks.com/) can help ensure accuracy in referencing. All pages should be numbered.
All figures must be in the correct place, and referred to, in the text. Separate high-resolution source files should be included (e.g., .xls, .ai, .ppt, .png, .jpg, .tif, .gif). Figures may be supplied in colour. The figure should be captioned sequentially (e.g., Figure 1 Title of figure) below the image. Do not include the caption in the image. The source of the figure should be acknowledged below the figure, even if it is the authors’ own work.
Tables should appear in the manuscript in the correct place, and referred to, in the text. They must be in text format (not image) so that they can be formatted to IJHE’s publication standards. Tables supplied as images will be returned to authors. Tables should be captioned sequentially (e.g., Table 1 Title of table) above the table. The source of the table should be acknowledged below, even if it is the authors’ own work.
Please do not use ALL CAPITAL letters, as it can be difficult to determine which words should be capitalised. IJHE’s convention is to publish authors’ names with their given name first followed by their family name. IJHE collects information about the authors’ country to ensure a truly international authorship.
ORCiD (optional) provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher and, through integration in key research workflows such as manuscript and grant submission, supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that your work is recognized.
