What is IFHE?

Global Recognition of Home Economics!

The International Federation for Home Economics is the only worldwide organisation concerned with Home Economics and Consumer Studies.

It was founded in 1908 to serve as a platform for international exchange within the field of Home Economics.

IFHE is an International Non Governmental Organisation (INGO), having consultative status with the United Nations (ECOSOC, FAO, UNESCO, UNICEF). With its Home Economics experts working in the different fields of Home Economics, in the academic arena, different fields of education, in the public services, as freelancers in business or industry cooperate in the International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE).


Aims of IFHE

  • Promote the recognition of Home Economics in the everyday lives of individuals and families
  • Promote continuing education in Home Economics
  • Provide opportunities through practice, research and professional sharing that lead to improving  the quality of everyday life for individuals, families and households worldwide.

How IFHE works?

About 800 Individuals and 70 Organisations in more than 50 countries all over the world are organised in the IFHE.

The Council consists of member representatives (delegates) and the Executive Committee. It is responsible for defining the working programme of IFHE.

The Executive Committee (EC) is responsible for implementing the working programme. The EC meets once a year.

The General Secretariat deals with the administration and organisation of IFHE. It is located in Bonn, Germany.

All members are invited to participate in Programme Committees and  Council Committees.
