World Home Economics Day 2010
Home Economics Teachers' Association of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State Branch
celebrated World Home Economics Day on 7th May 2010.
Due to circumstances beyond our control the occasion could not hold on 21st March 2010.
The theme of the celebration as stated on the Press release was "Home Economics Beyond One Hundred Years:Empowering for the Digital World".
A paper was presented on the theme by the State President, Dr Afiong Akpan
While another member of the association, Mrs Alice Etuk presented another paper on Global Changes and Challenges and their effects on families.
The occasion was Chaired by the Wife of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs Ini Edet.
The celebration also featured exhibition and presentation of awards to outstanding individuals in varying categories;
Primary School: Mrs Esther Inyang and Mrs Comfort Idiong.
Secondary School: Mrs Eno John James, Mrs Agnes Okon, Mrs Sylva Polycarp and Mr Emmanuel Ibanga.
State Ministry of Education: Mrs Agnes Udoh.
University: Associate Professor Afiong Akpan and Associate Professor Lucy Eboh.
Proprietor of Schools: Mrs J Akpanudoh and Dr (Mrs) Grace Ibok.

The Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme
Each year, the Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme brings suitably qualified candidates from developing countries to undertake postgraduate studies in Ireland in fields such as development studies, rural development, health care, education and law.
It is one of the ways in which Irish Aid supports capacity development in its nine priority countries in Africa and Asia and also in Palestine.
The next opportunity to apply will be Autumn 2010 for entry in the 2011-2012 academic year.
