Higher education at university and university of applied science have different regulations. Education courses are regulated by each federal state in Germany. Some general information universally valid in Germany is given below.
University:
For entrance to university the general education qualifications apply and universities may ask for further qualifications for some subjects. Courses which offer aspects of Home Economics are: Nutritional Science and Home Economics, Household/Domestic Services, Work Science, Family Science, Facility Management, Service Management, Household Technology. The mode of study is mostly modular and students awarded the degree of: Master of Science (M. Sc.), Bachelor of SCience (B. Sc.), Dipl. oec. troph.
University of Applied Sciences:
General qualification for university entrance or restricted university entrance qualification (partly combined with practical training or pre-study industrial practical training for students without vocational training). Courses which offer asoects of Home Economics are: Nutritional Science and Home Economics, Household/Domestic Services, Work Science, Family Science, Facility Management, Service Management, Household Technology. The mode of study is mostly modular and students are awarded the degree of: Master of Science (M. Sc.), Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.), Dipl. oec. troph. (FH). Modular courses is a new development.
Vocational Training:
The vocational training in Home Economics is governed by the national "Berufsbildungsgesetz" (BbiG) and courses are accredited at vocational training institutions by BbiG. The institutions authorised to offer these courses are listed. Details are available from the IFHE Office in Bonn. The Vocational training may be undertaken as
- Vocational Training as Home Economist
- Further Education for registered/certified "Fach"-Home Economist and Craftsman of Home Economics
