International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2012
The United Nations General Assembly has declared 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives, highlighting the contribution of cooperatives to socio-economic development, particularly their impact on poverty reduction, employment generation and social integration.
With the theme of "Cooperative Enterprises Build a Better World", the Year seeks to encourage the growth and establishment of cooperatives all over the world. It also encourages individuals, communities and governments to recognize the agency of cooperatives in helping to achieve internationally agreed upon development goals, such as the Millennium Development Goals.

The 64th Annual United Nations Conference of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI), will be held in Bonn, Germany, from Saturday, 3rd to Monday, 5th September 2011. This will be the fourth time that the Conference willl take place outside the UN Headquarters in New York.

Women's Empowerment Principles
Equality means Business
The Women's Empwerment Principles are a set of principles for business offering guidance on how to empower women in the workplace,marketplace and the community. They are a result of a collaboration between UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women)and the United Nations Global Contract. The development of the principles included an international multi-stakeholder consultation process, which began in March 2009 and culminated in their launch on International Women's Day in March 2010....

Dear Home Economists,
at the 64th Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference "Sustainable Societies - Responsive Citizens" which is taking place in Bonn, Germany, 3 - 5 September 2011 the IFHE Delegates met Dr. Vandana SHIVA, Navdanya International (India) before her keynote speach at the opening ceremony.
Please take you time and listen to her Keynote Speech when she focussed on the significance of Home Economics and demanded a workshop in Home Economics for wall street experts.

What are the Millennium Development Goals?
The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions. They have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest.
