Malta
- Post-secondary level (16-18 years-olds): Students study for the Advanced Level Home Economics and Human Ecology Examination which is based on 2 papers: Food, Nutrition and Health and The Family, Home and Society, as well as coursework involving investigative research. The course runs 2 years. This qualification is required for entry into the B.Ed. (Hons) Home Economics course and is a preferred subject for entry into courses such as B.Sc. Nursing and other Allied Health as well as Hospitality Management courses at the Institute of Tourism Studies.
- At tertiary level in Malta, Home Economics is only offered with B.Ed. (Hons) course at the University of Malta - Faculty of Education. It is a 4 year course focusing on Content and Methodology. A new program will be launched in the academic year 2004/05. Students will be able to obtain a sub-specialisation in Textiles or Technology Education.
Fields of business activities:
Graduates of the program generally find jobs teaching home economics in secondary schools, or at a Home Economics Seminar Centre which runs workshops for school children and their parents, or in other educational institutions such as the Pre-School Education Centre (whhich trains child careers and Kindergarten Teachers) or the Institute of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy.
