Austria

  • University:

There are no courses in home economics, household sciences at university level in Austria. At university level, some aspects of home economics and nutritional science are taught in the professional course for teachers of Home Economics and Nutritional Sciences. Graduates in natural-science and nutritional science are employed by private and public organisations, industry and the media. The duration of this course of study is 10 semesters, and students are awarded the degree of Mag. rer. nat. (Masterīs degree in Natural Sciences).

 

  • University of Applied Sciences and "Kollegs":

Courses similiar to the university are offered. The courses are shorter and more practical orientated. "Kollegs" offer specialised post-matriculation courses. There are no courses in home economics and household sciences at Universities of Applied Sciences in Austria. Courses in Tourism and "Kollegs" for Tourism may include some aspects of home economics education.

 

  • Colleges:

In Austria Technical and Vocational Colleges for Further and Higher Education for the training of Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff specialising in Agricultural and Forestry courses in Secondary Schools.

 

  • Vocational training:

Courses are offered in Nutrition Economics including organisation and management, social care, nursing and rural household management. The profession of Home Economist does not exist in Austria

 

  • Out-of-School Adult Education and Counselling:

Adult education Institutions (public & private) offer courses where aspects of home economics are taught.
